Well, we got the tree!

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I’m pleased to say that we got the Christmas tree and put it up already.  I was so pleased, it comes with only three major parts that you snap together and the branches fold up (or unfold) as the case may be.  It only took ten minutes to put it up and plug it in, and it looks great!  I’m thrilled about how easy that was!  So I spent most of Saturday afternoon and Sunday decorating the tree; it looks great!

The only drawback was that when I went to get the box that had the hand made stockings in it, I found that mice had gotten into THAT box too and had chewed up one of the hand knit stockings I had made.  I was really annoyed about that – it’s one thing to ruin something that was store-bought, it’s quite another to ruin something that I spent hours and hours making!  Well of course I had to wash all of the other stockings that were in the box, and threw away the box.  I’m going to have to buy some plastic storage totes to put the stockings in after Christmas is over.

And oh yes, we put out some mouse traps.  My hubby wanted to buy some Decon but I don’t want to chance a poisoned mouse dying inside the walls and stinking for a couple of weeks.  Nothing is more gross than smelling dead mouse in the house and having to put up with it until it fades!

Getting our Christmas tree

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Well yesterday afternoon my hubby pulled out our Christmas Tree from storage and took it out of the box.  We’ve had that tree for about the past fifteen years.  I freaked out because there was a huge mouse nest in the box; it was full of shredded tissue and sunflower seeds and mouse droppings!

I would not even let him pull the tree out of the box – I freaked out  very sweetly but strongly encouraged him to put the whole thing out with the trash and suggested that we buy a new tree this weekend.  So we will be going off to buy our new tree in a few minutes.  This puts us a little bit behind schedule for getting it up and decorated, but we’ll just have to deal with it.

I’m hoping to buy a smaller tree, one that is pre-lit.  That will save us a lot of aggravation regarding stringing lights on the tree!  Our old tree wasn’t a pre-lit tree, so it took several hours to string the lights.  Isn’t technology wonderful – being able to buy a pre-lit artificial tree!

Oh – and rest assured we will be buying some mouse traps while we’re shopping!

Hello world!

Hello folks out there!  This is my very first blog, and I’m a little bit uncertain about what to say or do with it.  Some of my friends told me that blogging is basically just a way to write about things that are on my mind, much like an old fashioned diary.  So that is basically what I’ll start out with, and then go from there!  I’ll be talking about the good, the bad, and all the rest of the stuff that is part of my life, or that I wish WAS part of my life, or I’m glad IS NOT a part of my life!  I wish you well on your journey, and hope you do the same for me!
