Vernal equinox

Friday, March 20th, 2009

According to my calendar, today is the vernal equinox; the day when the number of daylight hours and darkness are equal. From now on until the Summer Soltice, the daylight hours will increase. Today is also the first day of spring! Finally spring is here! Spring is absolutely my favorite season; the flowers are blooming and the weather is not too hot and humid, and not too cold. Absolutely perfect! I wish it could be spring all year long!

Lost power this morning

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Boy am I glad that I have battery backup, and have a gas stove! I woke up earlier than usual this morning because the power went off for a few hours. It’s really eerie how quiet the house gets when nothing is running at all! The house was so quiet, and I like some white noise to help me sleep. Lacking the white noise, I had no way to go back to sleep.

Thank goodness it was light out already, so I didn’t have to find any lights to illuminate anything! So I boiled some water to make some tea, and read the morning newspaper while I drank my tea. After that I went for a short walk and checked out what flowers are budding. When I got back home the power was back on, thank goodness! So then I could take my shower and really start my day! I hate it when there is no electricity!

What a crazy week!

March is such a fun month!  I never know what the weather is going to be like, other than windy!  Tuesday and Wednesday the weather was beautiful – in the 70′s with a nice breeze.  Today it snowed!  Not just a brief shower, enough to stick to the ground for a couple of  hours.  I noticed the children that were waiting for the school buses were trying to catch the snowflakes on their tongues.  Boy, did that bring back memories of childhood joys and innocence!  The snow had melted off by the end of the school day, however, so the kids didn’t get the chance to make snowmen this time around.  Oh well…. we still might get a storm or two!

People don’t stay in one place anymore

The world is getting smaller every day it seems. The friends that I grew up with have all scattered around the globe. I am so glad that we have email to keep in touch! I miss them all very much and love to hear from them and find out how they are doing, how their families are, who they are working for (or who is working for them!) and how life is treating them in general.

I do find myself nostalgic from time to time, wishing that we all still lived close together. I miss the great times we had together, the parties we had, the great group dates we went on. Oh dear, I’m depressing myself!
