Seat belts

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

I think that seat belts save lives. I know a lot of people would disagree with me, and a lot of people hate them, but I have always thought seat belts were a very good safety tool that should be used. When the state passed the mandatory seat belt law, I thought that was a good idea, but was disappointed when they said that it would not be a primary law.

They could only ticket you for not wearing it if you were pulled over for another reason. Now they’ve changed that, they CAN pull you over simply for not wearing it and give you a ticket. I think that is a good thing, and I hope that gets more people to wear seat belts.

Vernal equinox

Friday, March 20th, 2009

According to my calendar, today is the vernal equinox; the day when the number of daylight hours and darkness are equal. From now on until the Summer Soltice, the daylight hours will increase. Today is also the first day of spring! Finally spring is here! Spring is absolutely my favorite season; the flowers are blooming and the weather is not too hot and humid, and not too cold. Absolutely perfect! I wish it could be spring all year long!

Lost power this morning

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Boy am I glad that I have battery backup, and have a gas stove! I woke up earlier than usual this morning because the power went off for a few hours. It’s really eerie how quiet the house gets when nothing is running at all! The house was so quiet, and I like some white noise to help me sleep. Lacking the white noise, I had no way to go back to sleep.

Thank goodness it was light out already, so I didn’t have to find any lights to illuminate anything! So I boiled some water to make some tea, and read the morning newspaper while I drank my tea. After that I went for a short walk and checked out what flowers are budding. When I got back home the power was back on, thank goodness! So then I could take my shower and really start my day! I hate it when there is no electricity!

What a crazy week!

March is such a fun month!  I never know what the weather is going to be like, other than windy!  Tuesday and Wednesday the weather was beautiful – in the 70’s with a nice breeze.  Today it snowed!  Not just a brief shower, enough to stick to the ground for a couple of  hours.  I noticed the children that were waiting for the school buses were trying to catch the snowflakes on their tongues.  Boy, did that bring back memories of childhood joys and innocence!  The snow had melted off by the end of the school day, however, so the kids didn’t get the chance to make snowmen this time around.  Oh well…. we still might get a storm or two!

Drove me batty

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Well, I did not get much sleep last night! I woke up around 1am, hearing a fluttering noise above my head! It was a bat! I totally freaked out, turned on all of the lights and tried to find it to get it out of the house. Of course, just my luck, I couldn’t find the durn thing at all. Once the lights came on, the little creep hid somewhere. So, I kept all of the lights on the rest of the night, and didn’t sleep a wink! I may never turn the lights off at night again!
