Missing part

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

This afternoon my hubby and I were getting ready to run errands.  As we got into my car my hubby discovered that there is a missing piece from the car.  I don’t know what it’s called; it’s part of the outside of the car between the hood and the windshield.  I never noticed it missing before, and I can’t imagine how it could have gone missing.  I wonder if it is something that could have been stolen!?

I suggested that we look in a local salvage yard for a replacement piece but he says that salvage yards don’t deal in cars that old.  The car is a 1996 Lumina, but is in really good shape so I was really surprised to hear him say that!  I thought salvage yards dealt in ALL old cars!  I wonder how I can find out what that piece is called, and where I can get a replacement piece!

Surprised they haven’t been backing up

In my previous post I was telling you that I have had the good fortune to land a temporary job doing some bookkeeping for a small local business.  The business is a new one, only been in business a short time; less than a year.  They have been running on paper, no bookkeeping had been done on computers at all.  My job has been to install computer software and start putting the company records in the computer.   The first day that I worked there I had to install the software (which is outdated already and I told them to upgrade to the newest version as soon as possible!)   And then I asked them for a thumb drive for me to use to back up the files from time to time.  I like to back up my work frequently, just in case I make a horrendous mistake that I can’t figure out how to undo, or in case the computer crashes.  I was so surprised when they said that they didn’t have a thumb drive!  They had never even thought about backing up the files!

Considering the lack of technological savvy going on in that office, I’m inclined to suggest that they purchase the online backup services from the idrive.com website.  The convenience and reliability of having the online service is a good idea for them because they won’t ever have to worry about whether or not something was backed up, and what did they do with the backup file!  And the service is very reasonably priced, too!

Isn’t it interesting

A couple of weeks ago there was a question on a local community networking site about whether or not anyone was willing and able to take on a part time temporary bookkeeping job for a small local business.  I replied, and much to my surprise, I got the job!  It has worked out great; the hours are totally at my own convenience, and I’m getting paid a decent hourly rate.  I like the work, and was wishing that it would be more than temporary.

Well, long story short, they have asked me if I was willing to come in several times a month to keep them caught up with the bookkeeping, and that they were going to try and think of other things that they could pay me to do!  I’m very happy about that!  A little extra income is always a good thing!

Learning more about the Internet

My women’s club is thinking about creating a web page.  They think that this would be an easy way to let the members stay informed about the activities, without filling up the member’s email in-boxes.  It may also be a good way to attract new members.  So they have asked me to look into creating the web page, and maybe designing it.  Of course they don’t realize how much work creating a website can be!  But I’ve taken several classes in designing web pages, and I think that for the small scale of the project, it is something that I can do fairly easily.  Of course, the first order of business is to get the domain name, and secure webhosting services.

I like the webhostinggeeks.com website because it helps me to see which webhosting service is the best one.  Of particular interest to me is the fact that they rate and review all of the top websites.  I’m especially interested in taking a look at the “Green Web Hosting” because I’d like for our money to be spent helping “Green” companies to stay in business!

I thought I’d check out their blog today that I found on their web page, and I have to say that it was too technological mumbo-jumbo for a beginner like me!  I wonder if I’ll ever be that far advanced in my knowledge of the computers and Internet to ever understand those articles?

Give me a break!

I’ve noticed that whenever I tell my family that I have a particular deadline and that I need them to leave me alone so I can meet the deadline, it is like telling them to bug me to death so I can’t meet the deadline!  This gets very frustrating.  I don’t want to growl at them and cause hard feelings, but it seems that reminding them that I need to be left alone for a short period of time just doesn’t work!  Even hanging a “Don not disturb” sign on the doorknob doesn’t keep them from interrupting me constantly!  It is beginning to drive me crazy!
