Have you ever wanted to take a cruise?

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I have a lot of friends that go on cruises for their vacations.  They come back with photographs and stories of how much fun they had.  I’ve always been afraid of going a cruise because I tend to get seasick.  Trust me; seasickness is NOT something you want to experience.  Not pleasant at all.  Well, my sister suggested that we consider taking a river cruise vacation if I was concerned about getting sea sick!  I’ve never even heard of that being an option!  Now I think THAT would be a possibility!  There are a lot of great exotic location rivers that I can imagine I would enjoy on a cruise vacation!

Farmer’s market

Monday, May 18th, 2009

In the spirit of trying to support the local economy, and buy freshly made goods, I decided to stop by the local farmer’s market today on my way home from running errands. Thoughts of reasonably priced fresh veggies in my head, I pulled into the gravel driveway and made my way up to the vendors area. It is a relatively new farmer’s market, and it is early in the season, so I wasn’t too surprised that there were only four tents there.

I have to say that I was disappointed in the limited selections and high prices. Spending $4.50 for a small jar of strawberry-rhubarb jam, and $3.00 for a blueberry scone was about as inexpensive as I could get out of the place! I really don’t know if I’ll try going to that one again or not, I was really disappointed at the high prices of everything that they were selling. One vendor was trying to sell loaves of wheat bread for $7.00 a loaf! Too rich for my blood!

I am livid!

I am so annoyed! For the past week my Lexmark X6170 printer has been warning me that the black ink was running low. So today, being shopping day, I dutifully added the item it to my shopping list of things to buy at the local big discount department/grocery store. Having shopped around town for the best price on printer ink, I found that was the best prices on the ink for my printer. I have had the printer for several years now, and it is well out of warranty. It has certainly earned its keep!

Well, I paid $34.00 for that one black ink cartridge. The color ink cartridge costs $40! I just gritted my teeth and bought it. After all, I needed it, right? Well, today I found out that I could have bought appropriate printer cartridges for my printer online at CastleInk.com for only $19.95! And the color cartridge for only $22.95! And the website says that any orders over $39 get free shipping!

Well, as you can imagine, I’ll be ordering my ink from there the next time my printer is giving me a warning message!  I could have saved a bundle of money!

Burn pile

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

web-brush-pile-2-22-08.jpgOver the past year, my hubby has been throwing “stuff” into a big pile in the back yard. He called it his “burn pile.” I called it his “pile that makes the yard look like a dump.”

Pretty much anything and everything got tossed onto that pile. I thought most of the stuff could have simply been put out with the trash on trash day. I started to think that my hubby was a pyromaniac, with the stuff he was putting on that pile. Soon the pile was 20 feet wide and 10 feet tall. It was starting to look like a beaver dam. I was starting to worry about how big that thing was going to get!

Hubby kept talking about “soon” he was going to “light it up” and I started to worry that the sparks would spread to the nearby woods, and land on the roof of the house and burn the neighborhood down.

Locally, it is illegal to have open air fires before 4pm, and I worried that if and when my hubby “lit it up” that it would burn all night long and I worried that my hubby would leave it unattended after a short while, and then we would have fire troubles. And recently there has been a burn ban because of dry weather.

Well, last night, finally, was “the night.” He called the fire department to let them know he was going to burn the pile. No, he did not need a permit. He lit it up about 5pm, and boy did that thing burn! The fire burned high and fast. Thank goodness it did not spread.

There were a lot of cars that drove by the house, very slowly, checking it out!

Making money from the Internet

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I was surprised to get some emails today from several companies that were encouraging me to join their network marketing program.  It didn’t take too long for me to realize that they seemed like multi-level marketing that remind me a lot of the home based businesses like Avon, Amway, and Tupperware.  If you get solicited to join something like that, please be very careful and do the research and make sure you are getting your money’s worth out of it!
