Happy Mother’s Day!

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

I was so glad that my mother and sisters (and hubbies) could come over for lunch today.  We had a nice visit, and exchanged presents.  The hubbies prepared the lunch for us.  They fixed a nice salad, cooked steaks on the grill and we had baked potatoes and green beans.  We had a delicious strawberry shortcake for dessert!  Then we played cards for a while before they all headed home.  I like it when people come over here to visit – when the visit is over I don’t have to travel home!  All I have to do is change into my jammies, brush my teeth, wash my face and hop into bed!  It was a good day.  I hope you had a good Mother’s Day too!

Brain train

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Many years ago I learned how to meditate.  I learned about subliminal messages, and tried a few tapes sold by a company that was promising specific results by listening to the tapes.  Notice I said “tapes.”  That was before I had a CD player!  In fact, thinking back, it was about 25 years ago!

If I recall correctly, at the time there was a lot of publicity about subliminal messages, and it was claimed that commercials and retail stores used subliminal messages to influence shoppers.  There was a public outcry against it, and if I recall correctly it was outlawed in those settings.  At about the same time I was friends with a few women who were interested in metaphysical teachings, and I borrowed some of their tapes.  Those tapes were very interesting!

What has brought back these memories is the fact that my sister has told me about a brainwave generator program that she is thinking about trying out.  She said that they are offering a free 21 day trial so she feels that there is no risk involved.  It is supposed to help her learn to become stress free and think like a genius.  I told her that it sounds like a great self-development opportunity and that it was certainly worth checking out!

Great bargain

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned Freecycle or not, but if I haven’t mentioned it before, it has been an oversight!  Last week I managed to get a great bargain – some nice lady was giving away several large bags of men’s clothing.  She lived nearby, and it sounded like the clothes would fit the men in my family.  So I let her know that I was interested and she told me I could come get them.

Well, I got a LOT of clothes!  Almost all of the were in great shape, and most of them fit the men in my family!  So now we have some extra clothes for the guys for free!  When the clothes they’ve been wearing wear out, we won’t have to buy new ones for quite a while!  I’m really happy about that because our clothing budget has taken a serious hit with this downturn in the economy.  With the price of gas going up so much, we have to cut back somewhere!  And Freecycle is one great way to do it!

An age old tradition

For as long as I can remember, our family has always sent mother’s day flowers to grandmothers, aunts, and mothers using FTD!  We’ve always depended on their high quality and beautiful arrangements.  With mother’s day fast approaching, anyone who is planning to have flowers sent to their mothers would be well advised to order them now!  Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day are the two busiest times of year for the florist industry!

I can remember the times before the Internet was invented how easy it was to look up a FTD florist in the yellow pages of the telephone book, call them up and order a beautiful arrangement, having it charged to my credit card.  Now with the invention of the Internet, it is even easier, and you can see what you are ordering, which makes it even better!

Some prices are going down!

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

With all of the fuss about the price of oil and gasoline going up, causing so many other things to increase in price (like food) I was reading an article on the Internet about how there are some unexpected shopping bargains to be found. The bargains are there because people are restricting their spending so strictly due to price increases that some products have had to lower their prices to get the merchandise to move off of the shelves. The article mentioned that the price of electronics and the price of women’s clothing have actually decreased since this time last year.
