All that glitters

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The other day I decided it was time to get my diamond ring cleaned.  I asked friends where I could go to get it cleaned for free.  Being new to the area I don’t know where the best place is to go to get diamond engagement rings cleaned.  They all laughed at me when I told them that I wanted to get it cleaned for free!  They insisted that everyone around here charges to clean jewelry!  That really shocked me!  Where I used to live, all of the jewelers did the cleanings for free!  It’s good public relations and it gets customers to keep coming back to the store!  And THAT is good for business no matter where you live!

What’s the difference?

Have you tried the difference dishwashing products for your automatic dishwasher?  If so, which did you like the best?  I like the convenience of those little gel packs that you just pop into the dishwasher.  No worry about having to measure out the right amount and no worry about unwrapping any cellophane off of the little block of pressed powder.  I’m not convinced which cleans the best, however.  It seems to me that the gelpacs are not doing as good a job cleaning the coffee/tea mugs.  Often when the dishwasher is finished running I find that the inside of the mugs still look stained but if I run my finger around the side of the mug the stain comes right off.  That indicates to me that the soap just isn’t doing a good job!  What have you tried, and what works best for you?  I’d like to know!

Do you know your Body Mass Index?

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Do you know your BMI?  Do you even know what BMI is?  It is Body Mass Index, a measurement used to help determine if you are a healthy weight or not.  My BMI is 23.  That is “appropriate.”  That means that even though I’ve been concerned about Weight Loss because my knees hurt my doctor would tell me that I am not overweight.  So that is a relief, knowing that I’m not overweight, but I would still like to lose a little bit of weight – maybe ten pounds.  Simply because my knees hurt.

To be honest when I look in the mirror at my body, I like what I see.  And my hubby likes what he sees too!  But I’ve tried exercising my knees, they just plain and simple hurt when I weigh this much.  That is a real drag because I really don’t want to be counting calories and trying to lose weight.  And I already know that a program of exercise won’t help me lose weight because muscle weighs more than fat!  The last time I took exercise classes trying to lose weight I actually gained weight!  Has that ever happened to you?  Doing all of that hard work just to gain weight, when your goal was to lose weight?

You’d think you could buy this over the Internet

Several weeks ago I went to a city over an hour’s drive away and went to a Joann’s Fabric store.  I found some really pretty beaded fringe there and bought all that they had.  When I got home and was using it I discovered that I really need another package (they came in one yard packages) of the fringe.  So I went to my local Joann’s – they don’t have any.  I went online to find it to buy over the Internet – I can’t find it anywhere, no matter how much google-ing I do!  So I guess I’ll have to drive back up to the other city and hope they have re-stocked their supply!  I’m really surprised that I couldn’t buy it over the Internet!

Trying to help out

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been helping out a new friend in his office with his bookkeeping.  He’s set up a new business and needs a little bit of bookkeeping help.  So I loaded QuickBooks Pro into his laptop computer and have been entering his checkbook ledger into it.  At first he was sharing office space with another guy but they parted ways and now his office space is pretty barren.  The office chair he has for me to sit in when working on his computer is not adjustable and is not very comfortable to be doing office work in.  I’ve suggested that he pick up some more office furniture, put in some nice window treatments and a rug to give the place a little bit of warmth and coziness to the place.

His reply has been that he really isn’t interested in making the place warm and cozy; he only needed the space because the state required him to rent a business office separate from his house.  I don’t understand why the state would require that, but who am I to reason why?  So I have suggested that he at least needs a few more pieces of office furniture; the place looks really empty and would give clients a bad impression if they came there to meet with him.
