Cell phone hunt

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

For some reason lately it seems that everyone in my family is losing track of their cell phones!  I blame it on the unwieldy methods of clipping those things to our waists.  No one wants to wear the cell phone because they spin around and are simply uncomfortable, so we put the cell phones down near where we are sitting and then we forget to pick them up and bring them with us when we relocate.  I often carry my cell phone in my hip pocket, but then every time I bend over my cell phone beeps at me!  And it is one of the flip-phone styles that I didn’t think was going to do that.  I think it is the “Push to Talk” button on the side that gets pressed when I bend over!

At least once a day I have to pick up the house phone and dial someones cell phone just to hear it ring so we can find it!  Unfortunately that doesn’t help if the cell phone’s battery is dead, or if the cell phone is turned off!  I wish there was an easier way to keep track of these things!

Gold is going up

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Do you remember the financial crisis we suffered in the early 80’s?  I was rather insulated from it all myself.  I guess I was one of the lucky ones.  I had a really good union job that was pretty darn secure and paid well.  My hubby was also working at a lucrative job at a rare coin dealership where they bought and sold rare coins and stamps.  Anyway, there was a big financial melt-down going on where people were trying to Sell Gold Jewelry for Cash to the place where he worked.

He was working a lot of hours, and told me that it was amazing how many people were bringing in their trying to Sell Gold For Cash because they had heard that the price of gold was going up so high that they could make a lot of money from it.  I can remember him coming home and asking me to go through my jewelry box and handing over the gold jewelry that I no longer wanted so he could sell it too!  I remember his boss paying me a couple of hundred dollars one day to drive huge bags full of this scrap gold to another city four hours away for him to resell it to them so they could melt it down.

What was really nice was that if an exceptional nice piece of jewelry came in my hubby would buy it for scrap value and bring it home and give it to me.  I managed to get a few nice pieces that way!

Poison Ivy

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

When I was a child I could wear shorts and run barefoot through knee-deep poison ivy and it never bothered me. Not a bump or a rash or itch. But now that I’m an adult I am astonished to discover that I have developed an allergy to it! So I avoid it. Imagine my dismay this morning when I woke up to find some poison ivy bumps on my hands. I haven’t been anywhere NEAR any poison ivy! So I have to assume that I got it from checking the pockets from my hubby’s jeans before I washed them a few days ago. He had dumped them on the bedroom floor (where they stayed for a few days) and when I decided I was sick of them and was going to do a load of towels I grabbed them, checked the pockets (no money darn it!) and tossed them in the wash.

Since HE had a poison ivy rash last week, I now have to assume that I got the poison ivy off of those jeans. GRRRRRR. Not a happy camper!
