Deluged

I don’t know if you belong to any of the yahoo community groups, but I belong to a couple of them, and I think they are great! A few days ago someone on my group posted that they were looking for someone to do some sewing for them. I replied that I did a lot of sewing and would be interested in helping them out. (For money, of course!) Now I’m beling deluged with emails and phone calls from other people that want me to do some sewing! They are calling me a life saver! Funny how life takes some twists and turns from time to time. I really enjoy sewing, and now it looks like I might be making a little bit of money from it!

Please be careful

I am repulsed by how many companies are trying to prey on the people who are suffering the most from this housing and economy crisis.  So many people have lost their jobs and their homes for a variety of reasons.  Yes, some people had made mistakes and tried to live beyond their means, but others fell victim to job loss, sudden accidents, sudden deaths, and things beyond their own control.  Now they find themselves with bad credit and seeking credit repair services.

What many of these people don’t realize is that there is no magic wand that can be waved to improve credit.  Yes, a certain amount of credit repair MIGHT be accomplished by checking the credit records of the three big credit companies and notifying them of any mistakes.  That could help improve credit rating.  But if there are no mistakes, and the consumer’s credit is still bad, the only real solution is to pay off debts in a timely manner over a long period of time.  It does not happen quickly, and if there is a company out there telling you that they can help you fix it quickly, chances are that it is a scam and you will lose your money you are paying them!

Watched the X-files movie last night

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I always enjoyed watching the X-files television show, and was very sad when it went off the air.  But I never did make it to the movie theater to watch the movie when it was released.  To be honest I prefer watching movies at home – you don’t have to worry about arriving to the theater in time, finding a parking space, finding a good seat, having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the movie…..

So anyway, my hubby rentied the movie from Netflix and we watched it last night.  It was good, left me wanting more.  You do get the feeling that there won’t be any more, but it still left me wanting more.  And I’m glad that we watched it at home and not at the theater – much more comfortable!

Get covered

I cannot begin to impress upon everyone who is even thinking about starting their own business how important it is to get a good Business Insurance policy.  If you don’t have a good policy and something bad happens and you end up getting sued, you could lose everything you own.  And on top of that, even after losing everything you own that still might not be enough to compensate the “victim” for whatever bad thing happened!   So if you are out there running a business, uninsured, you are risking not only your house and home, but your ability to do business in the future, too.  And it doesn’t take much to have a bad accident, either!  A moment’s inattention can cause a lot of trouble sometimes! Many savvy consumers now insist on proof of insurance before they will even do business with a company!

If you are not sure what kind of business insurance you need, there is a good website that you can use as a resource to explain many of the different types of business insurance policies.  Although it does not list ALL of the options, it will give you a good idea of what you may be needing to get to cover your business.  In this highly litigious society we live in, only a fool would dare to go “out there” without adequate insurance.

Goodies

Monday, July 27th, 2009

This morning my hubby was complaining because we seem to be all out of store-bought cookies.  He said he wanted to run into town just to buy some.  I told him that I was going into town later in the day and would pick some up on my way home.  Well, he didn’t want to wait that long!  He wanted sweets within the hour!

So I went to the pantry and pulled out all kinds of cake mixes, brownie mixes, muffin mixes, and cookie mixes.  I told him “well, in the interest of saving time and money, why don’t you mix up one of these?”

He looked at me like I had eighteen snakes growing out of my head!  Then he agreed that it would be smarter to make some from the mixes we have then to make a special trip into town.  So, now we have brownies and pumpkin spice bars cooling on the counter!  Yummy!
