I like shiny, glittery things

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I’ve always liked shiny, glittery things.  I enjoy looking at them sparkle and shine!  Having said that, I don’t own very much “good” jewelry; fear of theft would prevent me from enjoying it!  So I think that maybe I should go for the costume jewelry that I won’t be upset about if I lose it (or break it) and try to put the “good stuff” where it will do the most good – in a gold IRA or a gold 401k instead.

I had never heard of IRA gold or how to put gold in an IRA until my brother told me that he was going to be doing it.  I asked him how to put gold in my IRA and he told me to go to the goldcoinsgain.com website.  The website is an informative resource that explains all of the details of what kind of gold can go into an IRA or 401K and how to go about creating the accounts and buying the gold to put in the account.

Disappointed with Facebook

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I recently joined Facebook, at the urging of my sisters.  To be honest, I’m quite disappointed in it.  My friends and family keep sending me cute little surveys to take which is all well and good but they end up being a marketing tool for some company to get their hands on my phone number and address so telemarketers can hound me to try to get me to buy their product.  Some of the surveys send they will only give you the results over a text message on your cell phone.  I don’t use text messaging – in fact I have a block on it so that no one can use it!  I don’t want to pay any text message fees.  I feel that if someone wants to reach me, they can call me!  Or email me.  So for now I’m disappointed in Facebook.

Do NOT cut corners on this one!

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I know that people are trying to cut corners and save money on as money things as they can, but cutting corners on home insurance is a bad idea.  Shopping for good prices on home insurance online is a smart thing to do, however.  Especially since the replacement prices on homes are changing with the economy.  Several years ago my mother-in-law had a kitchen fire that damaged a lot of her kitchen.  Thankfully her home insurance paid for the repair and replacement of everything that was damaged.  I can’t even begin to imagine how horrible it would be to have something like that happen to my house and not have the money to repair it!

Unexpected bonus

My sister called me today, all excited because she got something in the mail about how her former employer has settled a class action lawsuit and that she will get a little bit of money from the settlement.  The settlement is over a lawsuit that the company was not giving their employees the breaks that they were entitled to take.  I was surprised because I had not heard of the lawsuit until now!  One of the biggest complaints that my sister had about working at that company was because her department gave her a lot of grief about wanting to take her breaks.  Whenever she asked to be allowed to take her breaks she was given a lot of grief.  That led to a lot of ill will, and I think that is what eventually led to her being fired, because she didn’t fit in with the rest of the department – the rest of them didn’t take their breaks!  So I was glad to hear that the company was sued over that exact same situation and that my sister will get a small part of the settlement.  At least now she feels a little bit validated!
