A matter of taste

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

When I was young and single I could not afford to buy a nice bed for my room in my apartment.  So I made do with just a mattress and box springs on a metal frame.  And then every time I’ve moved, the master bedroom had a slanted ceiling that could not accommodate a headboard!   But I’ve always wanted to have a bed with a nice headboard, and maybe a foot board.  I think having a nice bed in the bedroom has a nice look to it; without it the bedroom looks unfinished!  But there are many headboards on the market that do double-duty as a book case, and although I like the practicality of that, when I decide that I want to read in bed or talk on the phone while in bed I can’t lean against the headboard comfortably!

I’ve seen some nice leather beds with padded headboards that would be comfortable to lean against, but I don’t think that leather furniture is “my style.”  I’m more the “country gal” and like the look of wood.  If I were going to buy a new bed for my room, I’d like it to be a traditional look, and have hidden storage drawers underneath.  I like storing things under the bed, but I don’t like all of the dust-bunnies that hide there!  So a storage bed would be my ideal bed!

Sore throat

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I was unusually tired last night, so I went to bed early – about 6:30pm!  I woke up a few times during the night and realized that my throat was starting to feel sore.  Well, I don’t think it was low humidity and mouth breathing because my mouth wasn’t dry!  When I got up at 4am this morning (yes, 4am – I am a morning person!) my throat was really sore!  So I’ve called the doctor’s office and they are going to see me in a short while.  I sure hope it isn’t strep throat!  But if it IS strep throat, I hope we caught it in time before it really gets bad!

You should have health insurance

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

I find it very sad that we know so many people without any kind of health insurance. Just spending a night in the hospital can through a family’s finances in a turmoil if they have to pay out of pocket! I think it would be wonderful if everyone could have a health insurance plan like Tonik Health Insurancethat covers medical, dental, and vision insurance. Each one of those health needs is very costly on it’s own!

English muffin bread

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Well today I decided to buy some cornmeal to try and make english muffin bread in the bread machine. I went to the new Harris Teeter store and bought way more groceries than I intended to buy! It’s hard to resist all of the BOGO specials and the double coupon offers!

Anyway, now I’m home and am cooking the bread in the machine. I’m anxious to give it a try! I remember about 30 years ago a friend gave me some english muffin bread that she had made from scratch. It was really good!

If you love golf…..

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

If you love golf, you would LOVE to Golf Myrtle Beach!  My neighbor Jeff just returned from the latest of his annual Myrtle Beach Golf Vacations.  He’s been playing Myrtle Beach Golf  every year for the past twenty years.  It seems that every time he goes, he’s found some great Myrtle Beach Golf Packages that include green fees to his favorite Myrtle Beach courses.  I didn’t think it was possible to play every single course in Myrtle Beach, but Jeff says that since he’s been going there for twenty years, he’s pretty sure he’s played them all at least once!

His wife Sara goes with him every year, but she doesn’t play golf every day the way Jeff does.  She likes to spend some time on the beach and going to some of the dinner theater shows and theme parks in the area too.  They try to take some of their grandchildren with them some of the time so that they can go to the amusement parks too.  Jeff and Sara have been trying to talk us into going with them on their next vacation trip.  I’m not a golfer, but I think I’d like to spend some time on the beach and go to some of the shows!
