A cheater meal

Friday, November 27th, 2009

My family asked me to have the big Thanksgiving dinner at my place this year. Well, of course I said yes. I know I’m a good cook, but I happen to have a lot of things that need to get done for other commitments, so I decided to purchase one of those pre-cooked Thanksgiving meals from the local grocery store. I picked it up the day before Thanksgiving and took it home. My hubby carved the turkey – it was a pre-cooked Butterball turkey. It was on the small side, but the meat was juicy and tender. As for the side dishes – they were a complete waste of money. I hope that next year I can just buy a pre-cooked turkey and make my own side dishes!

But everyone that came to the meal enjoyed the food and had a good time. And that is the important part of it all, isn’t it!

Teaching courses

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Have you ever wanted to take a teaching course?  Not too long ago I was thinking about becoming a substitute teacher for the local school district.  After all they don’t even require a college degree in early education!  That was surprising to me!  Well, I decided to check it out as a possible course of employment but decided that the school system here did not have any kind of training course in place to help people to learn how to be substitute teachers.  So I passed on that – I didn’t think I would do a good job of it! I really think that the school systems should have a better system than to just hire anyone with a high school diploma to be a substitute teacher!

Shiny things

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

My hubby loves chrome because it is shiny. I can’t really blame him, I like silver and gold shiny jewelry too! So for him, chrome is jewelry for his motorcycle and his truck! In the house, however, my hubby is all about stainless steel. Especially whenever we have to replace something. When we moved into this house we needed new appliances. I didn’t care what color they were, I just needed some appliances that worked! So we trotted off to the store and it became obvious that he would agree to just about anything as long as it was stainless steel!

So now that Christmas gift time is approaching I’m thinking about buying him some bloomus stainless steel fireplace accessories to set beside the fireplace in the family room.  Or perhaps a nice shiny bloomus stainless steel mailbox to use as a drop box beside the garage. I’m sure he’d also love a nice bloomus stainless steel birdfeeder for the back yard!

Winter weight

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

I’ve noticed that my pants are starting to get snug already!  And I haven’t even put on my thermal underwear yet!  I’m packing on my winter weight early this year!  I think that I have to blame the economy – money is so tight that I’m falling prey to the temptation of comforting myself with inexpensive food treats!  That is not something that I’ve done before – usually when I am stressed I tend to avoid eating and I lose weight.  Obviously this type of eating is my lame attempt to reward myself for getting through the day!  I fear that I am going to have a struggle on my hands over this one!
