Eye care that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg
Sunday, March 14th, 2010I was reading an article in the Examiner about how Zenni Optical sells inexpensive eyeglasses for as low as $8 per pair. I have heard about Zinni Optical in the past, and wondered about how to order a pair that actually fit. I can recall how when I go to the eye doctor’s that they take measurements (like between my pupils, and my temple length) to ensure a good fit.
This article was advising the consumer that in addition to getting the eye prescription, that you need to have something called a PD number. I have never heard of that number before. Supposedly Zenni gives you directions on how to get that number yourself, but the article warns that those numbers from do-it-your-selfers are rarely correct. So I’m wondering about what a PD number is. Hmmmm – maybe the pupil distance? Now that would make sense!
I can’t recall the eye doctor ever measuring that distance as part of the normal exam. That is usally done by the person who is fitting me for glasses. So that makes me feel a little bit awkward there. I guess I’ll have to give them a call and see about getting that.
I sure could use a spare pare of computer reading glasses! Last week I acidentally left my computer reading glasses at work over the weekend – and that was a huge pain in the neck! (Literally!) And I sure don’t want to spend a fortune on them, so Zetti sounds like a good alternative.
