Lots of craft supplies

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

My friend Jean was given a lot of craft supplies that she decided that she can’t use. So she brought them all over to my house! Bags and bags of fabric, trims, batting. Huge rolls of fabrics too! I don’t know when I’ll get the time to check them all out! It’s going to be interesting; there is no doubt about that! I’ll have to look at it like I’m treasure hunting! Now I’m afraid to go shopping for craft supplies, though – for fear I already have some in the mystery bags!

Pretty fabric

I went to Joann’s Fabric Saturday afternoon and found some really pretty striped fabric that was on sale for $3.00 a yard.  I simply fell in love with it and bought the entire bolt.  I know that it would make a gorgeous dress.  The issue I am having now is decidind whether to acutally follow pattern directions and cut on the grain or against the grain.  If I use the pattern the way it is intended, then the stripes will be horizontal, and I would prefer the stripes to be vertical.  You know, weight issues!

I just don’t know if there is any repurcussions about fabric stability if I cut against the grain.  So I guess I’ll have to be doing some research on that subject before I actually cut into it!  If you have any advice on the subject, feel free to share!

That was HOT!

Yesterday afternoon I went to a Red Hatter’s Club event at the Queen’s house.  She was hosting a “surprise” event; all she would tell us was to bring a glue gun if we have one!  So I dutifully brought my glue gun to her place, and lots of glue sticks too!  When I arrived I found out the surprise was decorating miniature artificial Christmas trees that were metallic red.  She had several different types of trimmings, so we went to it with gusto.  Many times during the course of the event I heard one or more of the other women scream when they got hot glue on their finger(s.)  I thought to myself “what wimps!  I got glue on my fingertips and thumb tips several times and I just shook it off.  Well, when I only had ONE LAST thing to glue, I put glue on the surface of the tree skirt I was decorating and smashed the trim into the puddle of glue.  The glue seeped out and I ended up with the side of my ring finger in a puddle of hot glue.  Well, let me tell you that although I didn’t scream, that hurt a lot more than usual!  And now I have a HUGE heat blister on my finger!  I guess the side of my finger is more sensitive to heat than my fingertips!

You’d think you could buy this over the Internet

Several weeks ago I went to a city over an hour’s drive away and went to a Joann’s Fabric store.  I found some really pretty beaded fringe there and bought all that they had.  When I got home and was using it I discovered that I really need another package (they came in one yard packages) of the fringe.  So I went to my local Joann’s – they don’t have any.  I went online to find it to buy over the Internet – I can’t find it anywhere, no matter how much google-ing I do!  So I guess I’ll have to drive back up to the other city and hope they have re-stocked their supply!  I’m really surprised that I couldn’t buy it over the Internet!

Going to a flea market

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Later on this morning my hubby and I are going to hop in his truck and head down to a large indoor flea market that is about an hour’s drive from where we live.  He’s been wanting me to go to the flea market with him for the past several months, and I just have not had the time to go with him.  He’s been starting to feel like I’m avoiding going with him!  So this morning when I got up I found him out in the garage, tinkering with his truck.  I asked him if he still wanted to go to the flea market and he said that he did.  So I said I’d go with him when he was ready to go!

So now he’s finished tinkering with his truck, and is in the shower.  I guess we’ll be heading out in a few minutes!  I’m curious to see what bargains can be had at the flea market!
