One of the things that I really enjoy reading through in cook books. I’ve heard that cook books are the biggest money maker in the retail book business. I guess that makes sense; most of the other books that one would want to read could easily be borrowed from a library, but when you find a cook book that you really like, you would want to keep it.

I love to look at the pictures of the recipes and imagine how great they would taste. I wish that I had time to fix most of them; but reality is that I’ll probably never have the time or energy to even prepare one tenth of one percent of them. I probably really should stop buying them. But it is so hard to resist!

I’ve been researching satellite internet in my area because getting internet at the house is the last thing I haven’t done yet. I moved in about a month ago and I LOVE the place but it needed a lot of work so I basically spent the last few weeks of my life, nights and weekends, doing renovations and fixing the place up, you know? So anyway, I think it’s great so many people tried to buy this place and I won the bidding war but at the end of the day is it okay that I paid so much for it? I don’t know. Only time will tell if I can get out of it what I’ve put in but I really love it here and I can actually see myself living here for a while to come which makes me think it’s worth it regardless. I know it’s all about whether or not you’re comfortable in your house and I can honestly say this place really does feel like home.

Everyone has left the house in a hurry in the morning on the way to work. You are running to catch the train or jump in the car to sit in traffic and you are in such a hurry that you forget to turn something off at home. You have to turn around and go all the way back just to have the peace of mind that you did in fact turn off the coffee pot this morning on the rush out the door. If you are anything like me when you get back to the house the thing you were worried about was already turned off. One thing that you don’t have to worry about turning off or on when you leave the house is your wireless home security system. You can run out the door without setting it and then set it from your phone once you are in the car or train or bus or whatever your mode of transportation. This is quite possibly the coolest part of having ADT is being able to control it from my smart phone.

Well, I did not get much sleep last night! I woke up around 1am, hearing a fluttering noise above my head! It was a bat! I totally freaked out, turned on all of the lights and tried to find it to get it out of the house. Of course, just my luck, I couldn’t find the durn thing at all. Once the lights came on, the little creep hid somewhere. So, I kept all of the lights on the rest of the night, and didn’t sleep a wink! I may never turn the lights off at night again!

I hope he is wrong, but I have to say that the winter has been much milder than usual this year, so if it stays this mild then I really won’t care about how late spring is. There have been fewer school cancellations because of winter weather this year so far, which I’m sure upsets the school children to no end. It has been a long time since school cancellations affected my family, but I can imagine the disappointment that a lot of kids would be sharing if they don’t get the chance to build at least one snow man or snow fort and have a good snowball fight!

Guest post written by my buddy Lavern Small

I went to CannonSatellite.com to look into satellite and see if it was any cheaper than cable. I also talked to the people with my lawn care company to make sure they wouldn’t mind if I cut back to twice a month instead of every week – that’s helped us save hundreds a year. I don’t know why I got on this money saving kick but for me it’s all about making sure we’re financially viable in this economy and I know that my job’s secure but I get really worried that I might lose my job or get hurt or something else terrible. I love being part of a supportive family but there’s something to be said for taking matters into your own hands and that’s what I’ve done – I’ve asked every member of my family to put their best effort forward when it comes to saving money but at the end of the day it’s an individual effort and everyone has to answer for themselves with what they’ve been able to save.

Has anyone ever explained to you the difference between curtains and draperies? No one has ever explained them to me, so I have always thought that the terms were interchangeable. Recently I went to Google and typed in “what is the difference between curtains and draperies” and several web pages popped up.

From what I understand now, curtains tend to be the unlined window treatments that are stationary on a curtain rod that does not open and close, whereas a drapery is often lined and is on a type of hardware that includes the ability to be drawn open and closed. Well, now I feel educated as all get-out! I always just called them all curtains!

Thinking about the window treatments that I currently have in my house, I realize that I only have draperies in one room at the moment, but when we moved in here the hardware that was in place were only curtain sash rods and I actually put the draperies on those instead of buying new hardware. Since they were for a spare bedroom and weren’t going to be actually used at all I just have them in the open position, and I have a valance covering the hardware so no one can see what is up there anyway.

In these uncertain economic times, one way that a family needs to keep in mind that Family Insurance is something that should be considered a necessity, not a luxury. One of the things that amazes me is that most people don’t have any kind of life insurance at all! Sometimes I wonder if it is because people really believe that they won’t die for many more years so they are in no hurry to buy insurance, or if they really are so selfish that they don’t care about what happens to their loved ones after they have passed away.

Recently I took out a home equity loan and one of the first things that I looked into after closing on the mortgage was getting some Insurance Quotes to help pay for that loan if something happened to me. I would hate to burden my family with that debt if I passed away before it was paid off. There are a lot of Cheap Life Insurance policies to choose from; I am going to try to get a simplified level term level premium policy for the term of the loan. I think that will provide the best coverage for my family.
