Hugs and kisses and a tribute to mothers everywhere

Sunday, May 13th, 2012

Even though I have a blog, sometimes I struggle for the right (or should I say the “write”?) words to say to people that I love. Today, being Mother’s Day, I feel that the every day “I Love you Mom” just isn’t enough. So when I found this cute little video on YouTube that is a tribute to mothers everywhere, I decided that it would help to express how much I appreciate my own mother. Happy Mother’s Day Mom!

Guilt – the gift that keeps on giving

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Just a few minutes ago I was reading a facebook entry by a friend of mine that said that guilt does not accomplish anything other than to make you feel bad. Then the entry encourages the reader(s) to let go of their guilt.

That entry made me think for a moment about guilt. My own opinion of guilt is that if people did not feel guilt, then they would do a lot of bad things. I think that guilt is a gift. Kind of like our own Jiminy Cricket. Helps to keep us from making jackasses out of ourselves, you know what I mean?

Caramel Praline Crunch ice cream

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

One of my all-time favorite ice cream flavors is the Caramel Praline Crunch made by Breyers. Whenever I go to the grocery store, I look for it. More often than not the store does not have any. Not that they are out of stock, there usually isn’t even a space on the shelf in the ice cream freezer. Months go by and no Caramel Praline Crunch in sight. So tonight, when I had to swing by the Food Lion on my way home to pick up milk, when I saw that the store had it in stock AND it was buy one get one free, well I just HAD to buy two of them. Never mind that there is no room in my freezer for it – I will MAKE room!

With my prize tucked safely in the car, getting ready to head home, I called Chad and told him that I was on my way home with the Caramel Praline Crunch ice cream that we love so much, and he cheered “awesome!” I asked him to please be ready to help me bring groceries in the house in twenty minutes (I ended up buying some porterhouse steaks on sale and some hamburger and some pork tenderloin too.) He was ready and waiting to hustle the food into the house and dish us out some of the coveted ice cream. Tonight, life was good.

Candy molds

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

My sister bought some lollipop candy molds and wants me to take some time later this week to practice melting some candy melts and fill the molds so she can have some lollipops to give away in the near future. I’ve never done anything like that before, it sounds like it could be fun, but I’m a little bit worried about having to use a frosting pastry bag to squeeze the candy out. I’m not quite sure that I have the strength in my hands to be able to do that.

I don’t even have any pastry bags, and I’m wondering if I should go out and buy some, or if there is a quick and easy way to make one ourselves from parchment paper or coffee filters. I’ll have to spend some time online to research that. Have you done anything like that before? How did you do it?

Tips and bargains and product searches

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

One of the interesting ways that the Internet is evolving is that some of the website developers and producers are combining functions together into one web page, so that the consumer can find what they want, read reviews about it, get discount coupons for it, and then go to the web site that sells it and actually buy it. Being able to do that is becoming more seamless with the appearance of the become.com website.

What I think is so awesome about this website is that it encompasses almost anything you could think of. There is a huge variety – it is almost as if you don’t have to go to any other website to find what you need.

You can start out looking at pool sweeper reviews so that you can make an informed suggestion to the sister that is putting in a new swimming pool, you can order an automotive ammeter for that hot-rod builder husband (why exactly why that is an important thing to have in a car I’m really not sure. I know it measures electricity. Hmmm… maybe it helps you figure out if there is a drain on the battery so you know you need to get to a repair shop right away because your car is about to die!)

And you can research baby walkers for girls to see which one would be the safest and most user-friendly one to give to that pregnant niece that you need to buy a baby-shower gift for. That site truly is a one-stop shopping tool, and I’m really glad to see that the Internet is becoming a more useful instrument in helping us to live our lives to the fullest by getting the best value for our dollars!
