A Voice From My Past

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

The phone number that showed on my cell phone was not familiar and had not been saved in my contact list, so I assumed the call was either a wrong number – that happens a lot – or perhaps a political pollster or telemarketer.

Whichever it would be, I was a little annoyed at having to stop what I was doing to answer the phone and deal with someone who was not welcome to intrude on my time.

Well, surprise! The caller was an old high school buddy who had just found my Facebook page and was able to find my phone number. She was calling just to say “Hi” and to reconnect with an old friend. It turns out that I was very glad to hear from her and we had a wonderful long conversation.

A clogging workshop

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

My sister was telling me that she wants to take clogging lessons and wants me to go with her. I had never heard of clogging before, so I looked it up on YouTube. It is a type of dance that is similar to what I call “Riverdance.” To be honest, I didn’t know what to think about taking classes. We found out that there was a day-long workshop going on in Haymarket yesterday, so I agreed to go and watch.

It looked like it was a lot of fun, but let me tell you this, I don’t know if my poor body would be able to take it! I do agree that it would be great exercise and probably would lead to some much needed weight loss, so I agreed to take a few classes with her. I hope it doesn’t kill me!

An unpleasant phone call

When Gina sent her son Tim off to school last fall I’m sure that the furthest thing in her mind was that she would be needing a california criminal lawyer before the school year was up. Tim has always been a clean-cut, soft-spoken young man who has never been in trouble in his life. Until last week. Gina got the dreaded call “Mom, I’m in jail. I’m in trouble.”

Gina hasn’t filled me in on all of the details, but from what I understand Tim was the unwitting driver of a getaway car when some of his school chums decided to rob a convenience store. Exactly HOW someone can be the unwitting driver of a getaway car is beyond my understanding, but that is their story and they are sticking to it. So now Gina has to come up with the money to hire a los angeles criminal defense lawyer to keep Tim from going to prison.

I told Gina that I’d help her try to find cheap airfare for her to be able to fly out there if she decides that is what she wants to do, but I don’t know if she is going to be able to afford the airfare and a lawyer.

Somehow I suspect that when that is all over with that maybe Tim won’t be going to school out there anymore. It’s a real mess.

Modern family

It is that time again folks, time to talk all about my immense love for Modern Family.  Of course this week that I am inspired to write about it they show a rerun, but that’s okay!  That is why we have directv whole home dvr DVR so we can record and delete on a whim.  We know that they need their down time to let their creative minds wander to come up with more and more crazy shenanigans for us to watch every week.  Phil and Claire Dunphy are for me the perfect couple.  They are a more realistic couple as compared with some that they show on tv these days.  I like how they fight and make up and then fight with their kids and then make up again.  They have problems and funny things happen just like any real family would.  I really could go without Sophia Vergara’s voice on this show because sometimes it really starts to get on my nerves but I think it does suit her character’s personality so at least that works for them.

Please let me sleep

My boss wanted me to attend a business related convention to represent our company and I reluctantly agreed to do it. He had arranged for me to share a motel room with three other ladies I had never met before, in order to save money. Well, I arrived last night and met the ladies for the first time. They had already met each other and had gone out for drinks and were feeling no pain. They were laughing and giggling and hollering at each other to “Shut up” until about 2am. When the room finally quieted down and they went to sleep two of them snored quite loudly. I spent a sleepless night sleeping in a too hard bed with a total stranger, listening to the sounds of fire engines screaming past and the snoring of my room mates. I will be very glad to get home and sleep in my own bed as soon as possible.
