Sue decided to spend a week in Chicago, visiting with Aunt June. Aunt June hasn’t been feeling well lately, and wasn’t able to come visit with us like she usually does. We’ve been quite unhappy with air travel of late, so Sue decided to drive up instead of flying. So Sue borrowed my EZ Pass and drove her Toyota Corolla to Chicago. We figured that was the best idea because that would make her departure and arrival days and times flexible.

While Sue was in Chicago, she was driving Aunt June around town to run some errands and her car overheated. She took it to a Chicago auto repair shop and they told her that she needed a new water pump. I had to give Sue my credit card information so she could get the car fixed. That’s one of the drawbacks to taking your own car on a trip! Maybe next time she’ll rent a car for the trip. Getting a rental with unlimited mileage just might be the best way to go; if it breaks down you don’t have to pay to get it fixed, you just trade it in for a different rental car and you’re on your way!

My hubby has been talking about buying a new car next year. If everything goes right, we should be able to trade in our scion on a new vehicle. The biggest problem (besides the money!) is picking out which new car we would like to get. My hubby says that he really wants either a saab 9-5 or a 2010 vw golf. He’s never owned a saab before, and he is really impressed with the history of the company.

The saab company is a Swedish company, and they got their start making air plane engines. When I was very young my parents bought a saab. It ran a very long time and they ended up giving it to my older sister for her high school graduation present. I always thought it was a funny looking little car, and it only had three cylinders, which made it sound funny. My parents loved it though, and it served the family well. When they gave it to my sister they bought a new one for themselves. I remember learning how to drive in that car – it had a feature in it that my father called “free wheeling” which meant that even though it was a manual transmission if it was put in “free wheeling” mode it would not stall out if the driver wasn’t using the clutch properly. Looking back, I think that was a fantastic car to learn to drive in! I wonder if all the saabs still have that feature!

I’ve always been partial to suvs, though. The biggest drawback to them is that so many of them don’t get good gas mileage. I think that the reason I’ve liked them is that they are roomy, like the station wagons we had when we were growing up.

Because I fell in love with downhill skiing when I was a teenager, when I became an adult and went to work and got vacation time, I spent all of my vacations on skiing holidays during the winter! Before I managed to move to New England, I joined a local ski-enthusiast singles only club and went with the club on group vacations to various ski resorts. As a single lady, I had more fun than you can even imagine! We would rent out townhouses right on the slopes so that we could ski right out of our townhouse right onto the mountain!

The very first time I went on a group skiing holiday like that the other skiiers encouraged me to take skiing lessons. Since the cost of a couple of lessons was included in the cost of the entire trip I readily agreed. I could not believe how much my skiing improved after only one lesson! By the end of the first lesson I had moved from the bunny trails to the intermediate trails. By the end of the second lesson I was introduced to the expert trails. If I had known that taking a few lessons would have improved my skiing so much, and so quickly, I would have tried to take lessons much sooner!

His wife Sara goes with him every year, but she doesn’t play golf every day the way Jeff does. She likes to spend some time on the beach and going to some of the dinner theater shows and theme parks in the area too. They try to take some of their grandchildren with them some of the time so that they can go to the amusement parks too. Jeff and Sara have been trying to talk us into going with them on their next vacation trip. I’m not a golfer, but I think I’d like to spend some time on the beach and go to some of the shows!

My hubby’s boss has announced a competition at work where the winner of the competition wins a long weekend vacation all expenses paid at a Myrtle Beach Resort! The competition is based on a combination of both productivity and safety results. My hubby has always been in the top five of both of those categories, so we are both very excited about the contest. There is actually a good chance that he will win because no other employee has ever been in the top ten of both lists at the same time!

So from what I understand, we will have a choice between a couple of different Myrtle Beach Resorts if my hubby wins the contest! I’m going to have to check into the different Myrtle Beach Hotels and see which ones are the closest to the beach and the dinner shows. I’m not particularly interested in playing golf, but I sure would love spending some time relaxing on the beach and going to some of the great shows or amusement parks that are in the area!

Last night my hubby and I had to go to the airport to pick up CiCi. One of the things that is aggravating about having to go to the airport is that we live so far away from the airport that we usually have to leave the house before the planes take off from the departure location, so we can’t confirm that the flight is on time or not before we leave. Well, this time CiCi actually managed to call us as we were leaving the house, telling us that she was on the tarmac! So we hustled out the door. When we got to the airport, the big sign that the airport uses to let people know arrival information showed that her flight was delayed, but it didn’t say what a new arrival time was going to be.

So what should have been only a few minutes wait actually ended up being a two hour wait. That stupid arrival board never did update the information to show that the plane had taken off or a new arrival time! Very aggravating! But eventually CiCi’s plane arrived, and we brought her home, safe and sound. Looking forward to spending some quality time visiting with her!

It’s been too long since I’ve seen the ocean close up. I think it was back in 1984! So I have to admit that when my sister suggested that we spend a weekend at a Myrtle Beach Hotel away from our kids and hubbies, the idea was very tempting indeed! I’d love to just book a room at an Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotel and go with my sister and just relax and do “girl stuff.” Being a wife and mother is exhausting!

I’d love to stay in one of the Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels that have a condo type of set-up where we each have our own bedroom along with a shared kitchen and living room. That way if we don’t feel like going out to eat we can eat right there and be comfortable. And it would be terrific to be able to be right on the edge of the shore, being able to just go out and be right there; no lugging of coolers and folding chairs. That’s the kind of luxury I could really go for!

A few weeks ago Peggy (a friend of my sister’s) went on a two week vacation to Myrtle Beach Resort. She had made the plans a year ago, to take her hubby and daughter. Apparently she had been looking at several different Myrtle Beach Resorts and Myrtle Beach Hotels for a few months prior to making her reservations because she wanted to make sure that she got the best value for her money.

She wanted one that was going to be convenient to the beach – in fact she wanted to not even have to cross a street to get to the beach – just walk out of the hotel and be right there. I can understand wanting to do that; I’ve gone to the beach before and had to lug all of my stuff long distances to get there, and it really is an annoyance to have to do that. In fact, that is one of the reasons why I don’t go to the beach – it is a huge effort to get there!

At the last minute Peggy’s hubby decided not to go to the beach with them, claiming not to feel well. Peggy went anyway, taking her daughter with her! If that had been me, I would have stayed home with my hubby to take care of him and tried to reschedule my vacation. But Peggy decided that the pull of the ocean and the need for a vacation was too strong and left hubby behind. I’ll bet that she had more fun with him staying home anyway!
